- Duke Abulurd VI Harkonnen bribes the Commander of the Sardaukar, Colonel Bashar Nadab Nadar, to institute a popular "draft" of Harkonnen over the other possible and potential successors among the Corrino Cousines. To remedy the situation, Count Philippos Atreides persuades a special session of the Landsraad that a Regency controlled by the Landsraad would be the appropriate vehicle with which to settle the opposing claims. Philippos challenges Abulurd to kanly and kills him.
