Bregan

Bregan had never wanted to be a Grey Warden and only joined because the Grey Warden who recruited him—Warden-Commander Kristoff—wouldn't take his sister if Bregan didn't join as well. Kristoff's reasoning was that no matter how good Genevieve was, Bregan would be better. During his time with the Wardens, Bregan recruited Guy into the order at his sister's insistence. Guy eventually proposed to Genevieve, but was killed by Duncan before they could marry.

Bregan was well loved and thus deeply mourned when he went on his Calling. He named Genevieve as his successor, something she suspected the Grey Wardens had only agreed to because they knew she would soon undertake her own Calling.

While on his Calling, Bregan was captured by darkspawn and taken to Kul-Baras. After failing to escape, he decided to talk to the Architect and eventually agreed to help with its plan. The Architect's magic artificially quickened the spread of the darkspawn taint inside him and turned him into a ghoul. He provided the Architect with the locations of the remaining Old Gods. As the emissary required more Grey Wardens to help with its plan, it chose to use Genevieve, despite Bregan's protests that his sister would be unwilling to help. However, after Genevieve reached Kul-Baras with a company of Wardens and King Maric, Bregan found her and convinced her to join the Architect's plan by withholding the full implications of its scheme.

After Maric, Duncan and Fiona escaped to the surface, Bregan and Genevieve went with the Architect to Kinloch Hold. There, Bregan told Genevieve the entirety of the Architect's plan. When she learned of the scale of the deaths that the Architect's plan would cause, she turned on her brother and drew her blade. As they prepared to fight, the Architect intervened and killed Genevieve. This caused Bregan to turn on the Architect, something which the emissary found hard to understand as Bregan had been about to kill Genevieve himself. However, Bregan said that he would never have actually killed his sister and attacked the Architect. Utha intervened, but Bregan was able to knock her unconscious. First Enchanter Remille then turned on all of them and attacked as well. Maric, Duncan and Fiona, who had freed themselves, joined the fight as well. The Architect and Utha escaped in the chaos, while Bregan eventually managed to behead Remille. King Maric asked Bregan for help in tracking them down, but he requested to die with what little dignity he had left. Maric accepted Bregan's last wish and had his soldiers execute him.
