Ghost

Ghost Concept (DKS)

A ghost is a spiritual manifestation of a long-past soul that has not been able to fully pass on through the Hall of Echoes; as they have one or more tethering links that restrain it to the world of the living. Due to their forced stay in the mortal realm, many ghosts are hateful toward anything that still lives, though others seek out the living to help them complete their tasks and move on to the next life.

Most mortals are incapable of seeing Ghosts, though may sometimes feel their presence or even hear them. There are magical means of allowing a mortal to see Ghosts clearly, such as the Sourcery skill Spirit Vision, or the Dragon Slayer ritual that involves an initiate absorbing Dragon memories which, alongside other effects, allows the newborn Slayer to see Ghosts.

Physiology

Ghosts can appear as different forms (differing depending on the game) though are always incorporeal and transparent.

In Divine Divinity, Ghosts appear as orbs of light until they enter combat, where they shift into a floating, vaguely humanoid form that lacks a lower body.

In Divinity II: Dragon Knight Saga, most Ghosts appear as a pale upper bodies. Their faces are contorted in agony and they possess black hair that floats as if it were submerged underwater. A head hangs from where their torso ends, presumably the same head they once bore in life, though this is not reflected in-game. Most Ghosts float, though some crawl across the ground at alarming speeds.

in Divinity: Original Sin II ghosts or spirits appear like perfect copies of their living counterparts. They are distinguished from the living by the spectral green color and transparent body. Unlike in other games they are incapable of causing direct harm to the libing however they may haunt them and cause them all manner of unpleasantries such as preventing wounds from healing or making them loose their sanity. If spirits are deprived of their Source they will cease to exist.
