Top Gum

"Top Gum" is the thirty-eighth episode of the Adventures of the Gummi Bears. It premiered on December 10, 1988, and is the ninth episode of the fourth season.

Plot

Inspired by some old stories, Cubbi constructs a flight pack and races off into the clouds with his flight instructor Artie Deco, to find the legendary Airiels. Unfortunately, the Airiels are not like the old Gummi stories described... in more than one way.

Trivia

• The title of this episode is a play on the 1986 Tom Cruise film Top Gun.
• The Airiel King mentions that their ancestors last saw a Gummi Bear 500 years ago. Other episodes establish that this time frame corresponds to when the Great Gummies left the continent for New Gumbria.
• The Gummi enemy Zorlock from the Season 2 episode "For Whom the Spell Holds", appears close enough in design to possibly be an Airiel himself.
