Samuel Pack "Sam" Elliott is an American actor and voice actor, who is best known for his distinctive rangy physique, thick horseshoe shaped mustache, deep and resonant monotone voice and Western drawl, thus making him being frequently cast as a cowboy or rancher. He is well-known for his role as Bobby Maine in the 2018 remake of A Star is Born (in which he earned a nomination for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor). His other credits over the years have included playing Marvel Comics characters General Ross in Hulk (2003) and the Caretaker in Ghost Rider (2007). He also voiced Ben the Cow in the 2006 Nickelodeon animated film Barnyard, as well as Chupadogra the English Mastiff in the 2010 live-action adaptation of Marmaduke. Additionally, he portrayed Lee Scoresby in the 2007 fantasy adventure film The Golden Compass.
For Disney, he portrayed Virgil Earp in the 1993 Hollywood Pictures film Tombstone. He also voiced Butch in Disney/Pixar's 2015 animated film The Good Dinosaur and Trusty in the 2019 live-action remake of Lady and the Tramp.

- Elliott originally wanted to reprise his role as General Thaddeus Ross from Universal's Hulk.[1] However, William Hurt ended up being cast as Ross in that film, and therefore in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
