Amadin of Benin, also known as Rasselas, is a supporting character in the Disney+ series Renegade Nell. He is a former servant, and possible royal, who secedes from his employers.
The young man known as Rasselas, later revealed to be named Amadin, was taken from his home in Benin and forced into a life of servitude for the Blanchefords. He was considered a "plaything" by Thomas who quickly grew bored of him and handed him to the rest of the family where he worked tending the horses. When Lord Blancheford is murdered by Thomas, he realizes that Thomas' sister Sofia Wilmot is pinning the blame on Nell Jackson, a woman Rasselas grew to admire. He decided to flee with her and joined her and her sisters in trying to clear their names and prevent a greater evil from emerging.
Personality
Rasselas is a mature, yet open-minded person. Despite his rather harsh upbringing, he manages to maintain a reserved attitude and is willing to help others. He is honest and open about his situation and is not afraid to speak out against those he considers cruel or evil. He is also a bit of a romantic, easily wooing Roxy and showing genuine care for her well being. He is very honorable towards women and admires people like Nell Jackson and her determination.
Trivia
Rasselas is implied to have been kidnapped for servitude. This would be fitting for the time period he lives in.
Nell tells Rasselas that he is "old enough to be [Roxy's] uncle." In real life, Ényi Okoronkwo was in his mid-20s, at the time of filming, and is only a couple years older than Bo Bragason, the actress who plays Roxy.
