The Puffin Colony is a group of characters at EPCOT.
History
Background
These puffins inhabit a region representing the frigid habitats of Norway. They were displayed in the scene where the guests encounter these animals in an area representing the frigid habitats where polar bears are at.
Development History
The puffins were created for the now-defunct Maelstrom attraction where they were placed in a glacier scene representing the fauna of Norway. Puffins are an abundant species in Norway and are often spotted along the Atlantic Ocean and the Norwegian Sea where they are frequently seen throughout the country.
Maelstrom closed in 2014 to make way for the attraction Frozen Ever After, based on the hit 2013 film Frozen. The reused puffin figures were placed into the finale scene as one of the tributes to the attraction.
Appearances
Maelstrom
The puffins were encountered towards the end of the attraction during the part where the Three-Headed Troll sends guests out of the troll country where they were encountered in a scene representing the glacier, along with three polar bears. They are seen in the same room where the polar bears are at inhabiting where the boats manage to escape from the polar bears in this area. The guests then end up in a scene where a rock troll appears where they manage to escape the troll via last drop.
Frozen Ever After
At the end of the attraction after guests pass through Marshmallow and a group of Snowgies where guests leave Elsa's Ice Palace via drop is the kingdom of Arendelle having a celebration. On the right side in that aforementioned scene is a cliff where three puffins are seen standing instead of five unlike in Maelstrom. These puffins were placed into this attraction as of 2016 as a tribute to the previous Maelstrom attraction.
