Mandy Patinkin

Mandel Bruce "Mandy" Patinkin is an actor and singer, who, for Disney, portray Brother Daniel in Squanto: A Warrior's Tale. For Touchstone Pictures, he appeared in Dick Tracy, The Doctor, and Life with Mikey. He also voiced characters in the Disney English dubs of Hayao Miyazaki's Castle in the Sky and The Wind Rises as well as Hippocrates in Hercules.

He born in Chicago, Illinois and was raised in Conservative Judaism, attending religious school daily and singing in synagogue choirs, as well as attending the Camp Sura in Michigan. He attended South Shore High School, Harvard St. George School, and Kenwood High School where he graduated in 1970. He attended the University of Kansas and later the Juilliard School (Drama Division Group 5: 1972–1976) where he was a classmate to Kelsey Grammer.

After some commercial and radio appearances, Patinkin started his career on the New York stage in 1975 with Trelawny of the 'Wells'. He would go to play well-known roles on Broadway, such as Che in Evita (Tony Winner), Mark in The Shadow Box, Georges Seurat/George in Sunday in the Park with George, Lord Archibald Craven in The Secret Garden, and Burrs in The Wild Party. His other stage credits include Follies, Falsettos, Hamlet, The Winter's Tale, South Pacific, Carousel, and Man of La Mancha.

On film, Patinkin is know for his role of Inigo Montoya in Rob Reiner's The Princess Bride. His other film credits include Last Embrace, Yentl, Ragtime, Daniel, Maxie, Alien Nation, True Colors, Impromptu, Wonder, Life Itself, The Adventures of Elmo in Grouchland, Smurfs: The Lost Village, and The Magician's Elephant. He also had television roles, such as Dr. Jeffrey Geiger in Chicago Hope, SSA Jason Gideon in Criminal Minds, Saul Berenson in Homeland, and Rufus Cotesworth in the Hulu mystery series Death and Other Details. His other television credits include Dead Like Me, The Good Fight, The Simpsons, Touched by an Angel, Law & Order, Wonder Pets!, and Nina's World.

  • He was approached to play Quasimodo in The Hunchback of Notre Dame but his style of portraying Quasimodo collided with the producers' demands, and Patinkin stated, "'I [was] just there at the audition [and I] said, 'I can't do this'". He later played the character in a 1997 television film.
