Ketaks are vehicles from Atlantis: The Lost Empire. Based on flying fish, they are the smallest of Atlantis's stone fish vehicles, and function as an equivalent to a motorcycle.
Background
While many of the Atlantean stone fish were part of Atlantis's military such as the similar looking Martag, the Ketak air scooters were personal transport for civilians, meant to carry two people. On the neck of the Ketak is the crystal slot with a sequence of instructions by the following:
- Place crystal into slot
- Gently place your hand on the inscription pad
- Turn the crystal 1/4 turn back while your hand is on the inscription pad
Atlantean statistics for the craft printed in some of the film's tie-in material puts them at 5 kelim long (11.5 feet), 1.7 nayuts in weight (1603.1 pounds), with a top speed of 115 wokanos (74.75 miles per hour). In a confined space, these high speeds could result in ricocheting action if accelerated too quickly.
Appearances
Atlantis: The Lost Empire
When Princess Kida learns that Milo can read the Atlantean language, she asks him to translate instructional text on a Ketak she has been trying to re-activate with her crystal. Having gotten as far as inserting the crystal and touching the pad, Kida hasn't quite figured out the last step. Milo finds that she needs to keep her hand on the pad while turning the crystal back in the "ignition". Excited to see the Ketak working, Milo sees it as the perfect way to see the city very quickly, but ends up causing the Ketak to speed and bounce out of control when touching the pad again and causing it to crash into a wall. Ketaks can later be seen among the other Atlantean stone fish flying around the city in the film's ending.
Others
The Ketak also appears in the sequel where Obby takes a ride with Kida driving it.
She also drives it in the House of Mouse episode "Donald Wants to Fly".
Disney Parks
When Atlantis was featured in the Disney Stars and Motorcars parade, a car shaped like a Ketak carried Milo and Kida along the parade route. This car would later be replaced by a Lilo and Stitch car.
