Cassian Andor's reckless search for answers about his past makes him a wanted man.
Plot
Five years before the Battle of Yavin, Cassian Andor travels to the industrial planet of Morlana One on the trail of his missing sister. While searching for her in a brothel, Cassian is antagonized by two Pre-Mor Authority security officers. An altercation between the trio shortly ensues outside the brothel, leading to Cassian accidentally killing one officer and executing the other. Cassian flees to the planet Ferrix, where he attempts to hide his involvement by convincing his adopted mother Maarva's droid, B2EMO, and his friend, Brasso, to cover for him. Cassian also asks his friend Bix to connect him with a black market buyer, as Cassian has acquired a Starpath Unit, a valuable piece of Imperial navigation technology. Bix agrees and contacts the buyer, but her attempts to hide her connection with Cassian make her boyfriend, Timm, suspicious. Back on Morlana One, the chief inspector of security elects to cover up the murders, to improve his report to the Imperial authorities, but his deputy, the ambitious Syril Karn, is determined to solve the case. Karn identifies Cassian's borrowed ship and traces it to Ferrix, and learns from an eyewitness from the brothel that Cassian stated he was from the planet Kenari.
In a flashback, a younger Cassian, known as Kassa, and his tribe on Kenari decide to investigate a crashed ship, only to stumble upon an immense Republic mining operation.
This is the first time language from Star Wars is not translated as the children of Kenari did not have their language translated in the subtitles on Disney+.
A WTK-85A interstellar transport, BTL-A4 Y-wing assault starfighter/bomber, a Lancer-class pursuit craft, and a VCX-100 light freighter is seen in the shipyard, Zorby's Western Shiplot.
The opening scene, with Cassian Andor walking into Morlana One, was filmed on a pier that extends into the River Thames at Coryton Refinery, a defunct oil refinery in Essex, England, from 6 pm to 3 the next morning.
The Jukebox in the Morlana One brothel was inspired by the droid detector in the Mos Eisley cantina from Star Wars: A New Hope.
Creator and showrunner Tony Gilroy was inspired to use brick as a building material for Ferrix after walking through the historical London neighborhoods near the Globe Theater and the Tower of London. Once built, the set reminded actor Diego Luna of the John Wayne western town sets in Durango, Mexico, that he visited as a child.
Scenes set in the jungle village on Kenari were filmed at Black Park, a public park adjacent to Pinewood Studios, where similarly wooded Mustafar and Ajan Kloss exteriors were filmed for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.
The noodle box seen in the Pre-Mor headquarters was modelled after the typical take-out food carry-out container, but with an extra side and had the word “noodles” in both Aurebesh and Bazeese imprinted on it.
The Preox-Morlana headquarters building took design inspiration from The National Library of Belarus in Minsk.
