James Etten is one of the five main protagonists from the first season of Goosebumps. He is an affluent teenager who is haunted by a cuckoo clock that makes alternate clones of himself.
James is a fairly upbeat and happy-go-lucky person. While he is slightly conceited, he is very eager and friendly and tries to look for his own happiness. It is implied that his happy demeanor stems from having a mother who is implied to be an alcoholic and hiding his stigma through being sociable with everyone. He is shown to be openly proud of his orientation and his justified in his pursuit of a real relationship. While he can sometimes be cowardly, he never backs away from the trouble that his friends are in and will go out of his way to help them escape the sinister clutches of evil that Harold Biddle unleashed.
