Sir Ian Holm Cuthbert, CBE, was an English actor. He was best known for his roles as Ash in the 1979 film Alien, as Vito Cornelius in the 1997 English-language French science fiction action film The Fifth Element, and as Bilbo Baggins in the trilogies of The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit. He was also known for portraying Sam Mussabini in the 1981 British historical sports drama film Chariots of Fire, for which he was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor.
For Disney, he voiced Chef Skinner in the 2007 Disney/Pixar film Ratatouille. His likeness was digitally recreated for the synthetic Rook (who is the same model as Ash) in Alien: Romulus, with Daniel Betts providing the voice and facial capture.
