Grab is one of the titular protagonists of the 2019 Pixar short Smash and Grab.
Background
Grab is one of the two laborer robots who live in a futuristic planet. Hence its name, Grab is shown to have to hands which it uses to carry objects while its partner Smash is capable of breaking things for the former. When it and Smash escaped from the train, Grab lost one of its arms, due to one of the security robots shooting it while attempting to escape. In spite of having one arm left, Grab was able to survive and high-five each other for the first time, happy to be free from work.
Role in the short
Grab first seeing hauling out of the window while working inside a train with its partner Smash. After Grab successfully tosses a rock out of the window, the two attempt to amuse themselves, making they are unable to touch each other, much to their frustration. As the train stops, Smash sees two robots high-fiving each other as well as some robots grabbing resources, which Smash realizes that it and its companion Grab are stuck on power cords, leaving them unable to high-five each other. Smash then cuts off its power cord, unaware of that it has two bars left before it powers down, helping it escape via hatch while doing the same to Grab. The two robots equip themselves with batteries they have stolen to keep themselves active, unaware of the alarm inside the train.
After Grab and Smash escape via hatch, the two are ambushed by security robots who attempt to shoot them down. As one of them attacks Grab (causing Grab to lose its arm), Smash defends Grab from the robot who shot it, while more robots prepare to attack them. Smash tosses its battery at the robots to dispatch them while defending Grab, which the blast from the explosion sends them on another area of a Mars-like planet. Grab and Smash later high-five themselves, happy to enjoy their freedom and reunite with each other as the two explore the outside world together.
