Boy Moth

The Boy Moth[1] is one of the main characters featured in the 1938 Silly Symphony short The Moth and the Flame.

Background

Personality

The Boy Moth is shown to be attracted to the Girl Moth, often showing a loving personality to her. Like any typical moth, he would occasionally snack on types of clothing in the costume shop he finds, alongside various other moths. However, he is shown to be sensitive when he senses the Girl Moth in danger, such as the case of the Flame trying to seduce her, causing the fire to become worse. After the Boy Moth and the moth swarm were able to extinguish the fire, the Girl Moth became happy of him for his heroic deeds to save her from the fire.

Role in the short

The Boy Moth and the Girl Moth both arrive at the Ye Olde Costume Shoppe trying to look for clothing to feast on and as they enter, a swarm of other moths follow and start devouring the clothes inside the clothing shop. Later, the Boy Moth sees a hat for both of them to snack on, much to the Girl Moth who is furious that that he ignored her to feast on the hat. However, he later sees the Girl Moth caught in a spider web, leading him to defend the Girl Moth from the fire caused by the Flame. He also attempted to extinguish the Flame, as well as using any other substance, only for the Flame to grow stronger. Seeing a swarm of other moths, the Boy Moth plans to get their attention by dropping a pile of cotton balls on a bell, causing him and the other moths to work together using objects to extinguish the fire. They were able to able to extinguish the Flame in time. The Boy Moth manages to save the Girl Moth from the spider web, just as she feels happy that he saved her. The Girl Moth later kisses him for being a hero and saving her from the Flame and spider web.
