Dreamflange is one of the most popular Unique weapons in Diablo I. It is used mostly by Sorcerers because of the highest bonuses to both Mana and Magic than on any other weapon and Spell Levels. Other classes will find this mace useful for reading books, and potentially for giving an increased level of spellpower, affecting offensive spells and Healing. A major reason for its fame was that it was frequently hacked by changing its base item type. This enabled the proliferation of Dreamflange rings, Dreamflange armors, et cetera in multiplayer games. Real Dreamflange maces were rarely seen or used (the weapon slot was better used for something like a King's Sword of Haste or Arch-Angel's Staff of Apocalypse), and many players did not even know that the Dreamflange was supposed to be a mace.
