Mana (魔力) is a type of energy that is ubiquitous in the world. It plays a major role in the worlds of Origin[1], Lambda[2], and the Demon King World[3]. It has little role on Earth[4] and EARTH[5].
Corrupted Mana
the corrupted Mana (汚れた魔力), also known as miasma (魔素)[6], originating from the grudge of the dead, or Demon King World, distorts the laws of the world, causing Monsters, Dungeons, and the transformation of the natural environment.[7][8][6] This results in the many devil's nests spread across the land of Lambda.[2]
"It was common knowledge not only to adventurers such as Rock and his party, but to all people in this world, that animals such as birds, rabbits, and dogs could transform into monsters under the influence of corrupted Mana."[9]
"But there were almost none who had actually witnessed this happening in person. Corrupted Mana wasn’t visible to the naked eye, and nobody knew just how much corruption animals could withstand. Mages and alchemists had tried to understand this process since ancient times, but their vague descriptions only stated that animals had individual differences in tolerance, and that it would also depend on the attribute and density of the corrupted Mana."[9]
"Incidentally, there was no law to punish the owners of animals that happened to transform into monsters. They only had to take responsibility if such transformed monsters were to kill people or destroy property."[9]
As Attribute Value
On the other hand, the term Mana can also refer to the portion of Mana, that belongs to the individual and is the cost of using magic and Martial Skills. [10][11]
For a human, Mana of a new adult is a little over 10, while a B-class mage adventurer generally has a Mana of about 10,000.[12] Kaidou Kanata, who once was one of the Bravers, had 42,000 Mana.[13] Vandalieu's Mana pool, a half year after his birth was singularly high, about 100 million.[14]
Mana consumed in the use of magic is restored naturally. For an average magic user of human races with no Skills to assist in mana recovery, it takes a full day to replenish the mana that has been used up.[15]
Properties of Mana
"Incidentally, there were two meanings to the ‘properties’ of an individual’s Mana. One was the talents possessed by the owner of the Mana, such as their affinity to the attributes and their suitability for alchemy and spiritual magic. The other definition was the properties that distinguished the owner, similar to fingerprints or DNA. Magic Items that could only be used by their owners distinguished their owners from other people through these identifying properties."[16]
Examples
- Demon King Guduranis' mana and presence had a sense of aggressiveness. "That Demon King ruled over those beneath him with sheer power and fear" according to Gufadgarn.[16]
- Vandalieu's mana is described as having a strange feeling to it. Farmaun: “It feels like it’s coiling around me, but it’s not particularly unpleasant, if you know what I mean.” It seemed that Vandalieu’s Mana had sticky properties.[16]
- In Origin, Mana seals are used for personal identification in place of fingerprints.[1]
Trivia
- If somebody is supplied with mana that exceeds their mana pool, it's suggested that it may cause a sensually stimulating feeling.[17]
