Virman Vundabar was one of Darkseid's highest-ranking lieutenants.
History
Following Darkseid's presumed death, Vundabar attempted to seize control of Apokolips, but was battled to a standstill by Granny Goodness. To shore up his position, Vundabar kidnapped Darkseid's son Kalibak and tried to brainwash him into being his puppet. Meanwhile, Granny blackmailed Mister Miracle and Big Barda into rescuing Kalibak from the X-Pit, with help from the Flash. Unable to stop them, Vundabar decided to destroy the X-Pit and kill them all, but they escaped while he fled.
Later, Vundabar's army, with Kanto and Mantis as his lieutenants, were prepared to battle it out with Granny Goodness' army under the Female Furies. As the two armies charged, Darkseid returned to Apokolips. Shocked at the sight of their master (and fearful of his wrath), everyone, including Vundabar, immediately bowed down before Darkseid.
Background information
- In the comics, Virman Vundabar himself was raised in one of Granny's orphanages, but Granny distrusts Vundabar because his ambitions conflict with Darkseid's. At times, he has rivaled Desaad in both treachery and bootlicking. Vundabar styles himself after Prussian military commanders, who he encountered in 19th century Earth. In other comics, he is drawn with a bottlebrush mustache and a hairstyle clearly resembling Adolf Hitler's.
- Vundabar has a niece named Malice, who is the youngest member of the Female Furies.
