Synopsis for "Shades"
Zatanna stops a carjacking during a visit to Los Angeles. She came to L.A. help Antonia Stefanacci finish the last details for the opening of the Magic Museum. Antonia also wants Zatanna as an official consultant for the museum. She shows her a turban from Sargon the Sorcerer, a old friend from her father's, and her father's old sunglasses.
The turban and the sunglasses are left in garage alongside belongings from other magicians, such as Doctor Fate's boots, Baron Winters' cape and Ibis's jacket. When everyone leaves, the turban suddenly speaks to the other artifacts, saying that they can combine themselves into a single entity to continue their mission to fight evil. The artifacts try to dissuade him, saying that they are psychic remnants from their owners, not the magicians themselves. Refusing the other artifacts' arguments, the turban forcefully combines itself with the artifacts, becoming a mystic suit that refers itself as Sargon.
As Zatanna drinks a glass of wine on the hotel's balcony, she hears an explosion at the hotel. Putting her costume on, Zatanna teleports to the museum and Antonia tells her that the artifacts have been stolen. Then, she finds a mugger who had been strangled. In that moment, Sargon appears behind Zatanna, asking her if she will join his crusade.
Zatanna tries to calm him down, saying that the living have everything under control. Sargon refuses, as he believes that there is only evil in the world. He tries to destroy a building, but Zatanna reinforces it. Zatanna and Sargon begin fighting.
Zatanna manages to make contact with the last remnant of her father's spirit inside the sunglasses. In turn, John connects with the other magicians. Combining their last power, the magicians overcome Sargon's control and the artifacts become lifeless once again.
The public applauds, believing the whole battle to be staged. Zatanna concludes that protections should be put around the artifacts, and Antonia gives Zatanna her father's sunglass. She accepts, but she also gives Antonia a poster of her with her father, as she doesn't want the Magic Museum to be devoid of the Zatara legacy.
The next day, Zatanna leaves Los Angeles, having gained a new appreciation of the city.
