Wishing Gun

In 1995, Ralph Dibny, the Elongated Man, worked on a case that led him to Anselmo and the gun. After the case was resolved, Ralph kept the gun as a keepsake. He never actually believed in its purported ability to grant wishes however, and gave it little thought afterwards.

The Wishing Gun is a mystical item that once belonged to a magician gangster named Altonio Anselmo.

History

In 1995, Ralph Dibny, the Elongated Man, worked on a case that led him to Anselmo and the gun. After the case was resolved, Ralph kept the gun as a keepsake. He never actually believed in its purported ability to grant wishes however, and gave it little thought afterwards.

Years later, Ralph suffered a personal tragedy when his beloved wife Susan was murdered by an insane Jean Loring. Despondent and suicidal, Ralph found the gun and placed it in his mouth while muttering "I wish I were with Sue".[1] Ralph didn't kill himself however, but his actions did lead him to the Cult of Conner and the promise of Susan's resurrection. Dibny never resurrected his wife, but the actions of the Cult brought him into contact with the powerful artifact known as the Helmet of Fate.

Traditionally, the Helmet was the embodiment of the Lord of Order known as Nabu, but in this instance, it was actually concealing the spiritual essence of the sorcerer, Felix Faust. Faust attempted to manipulate Dibny, but Ralph quickly discovered the Helmet's true nature. Using Faust as bait, Ralph set a trap for Felix's demonic master, Neron. All three converged at the Tower of Fate in Salem, Massachusetts and Ralph used the Wishing Gun one more time. This time however, he used it to create a binding spell trapping Neron and Faust inside the Tower, seemingly for all eternity. Unfortunately, this proved to be Ralph's last adventure; one that cost him his very life.[2]

The Wishing Gun currently resides inside the Tower of Fate.

Notes

  • Appearances to the contrary, the Wishing Gun is not an actual weapon. It doesn't fire bullets and can only harm another individual if the wielder wishes it to do so.
