The Green is one of the elemental forces in the universe inherent and connected to all forms of plant life. It is a cosmic energy force that animates all of plant life in the universe, Multiverse, and perhaps the greater Omniverse.[8] The Green is experienced by elementals' as an ethereal realm inhabited by the collective minds of the Parliament of Trees.
History
New Earth
A collective consiousness called the Parliament of Trees exists in the dimension of The Green. The Parliament was founded 450 million years ago by Yggdrasil, the first plant elemental. Almost every plant elemental that ever lived has gone on to join the Parliament. The Parliament's first home was the Garden of Eden.[4]
A newly conscious plant life known as Swamp Thing formed a semblance of a human form and rose up from the bog. He was the latest in a long line of Earth elementals created when The Green was in need of protection. When Swamp Thing went into shock from learning his true origins, he rooted himself into the swamp and spent three weeks dreaming. His mind eventually travelled into The Green. Jason Woodrue returned to the swamp and discovered Swamp Thing's connection to The Green, but the experience drove him mad.[5]
Prime Earth
The Green was formed during the dawn of humanity when the Lords of Order set forth and performed a ritual that convened the forces that infused the natural world with power. Called the "Parliament of Life", this ritual spawned the natural forces of the world, which included not only the Green but also others such as The Red, The Grey, The Divided, and The Rot.[6]
Earth 2
In the parallel universe of Earth 2, The Green chooses Alan Scott as its protector in preparation for a coming threat, and in the wake of a devastating attack by Darkseid. It uses his engagement ring as a conduit for its power, naming him a Green Lantern.
