Adrian Veidt, better known as Ozymandias, was a man born with a genius intellect who became an acrobatic and highly intelligent vigilante, idolizing the warrior and leader Alexander the Great and the great Egyptian Pharaoh Ramesses II, granting himself the latter's Greek name. After retiring from crimefighting, he built the massive commercial empire of Veidt Enterprises, and used it to further his own messianic self-image as well as save the world from nuclear annihilation by secretly staging an elaborate psychic catastrophe in order to trick the human race into thinking that aliens from another dimension were invading our world and uniting them against a common enemy, but costing three million lives in the process. Upon his teammates discovering Veidt's conspiracy, he faced the wrath of both Rorschach and Doctor Manhattan, but ultimately managed to convince most of them that his actions were a necessary evil to safeguard Earth's future.
Adrian Veidt was created by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons, first appearing in Watchmen #1 (1986).
