Synopsis for "Memories of a Stranger"
Darkseid discovers another human, a woman named Anne Flaherty, who possesses a piece of the Anti-Life Equation and sends Dispatcher, one of his most loyal subjects, to bring her alive. In New Genesis, Highfather learns of Darkseid's new attempts to kidnap humans, and he sends Lightray and Orion to protect Anne.
However, both sides arrive late because Anne died in a car accident involving a drunk driver. Lightray and Orion confront the driver in the hospital, who shows little to no remorse for his actions. Suddenly, Dispatcher arrives, looking for Anne. Orion fights the Apokoliptian but decides to spare him, revealing that he also arrived late because his target is dead, and Dispatcher realizes that Darkseid won't forgive his failure.
Lightray wants to know more about the life of Anne Flaherty, so he seeks Metron's help. He gives Lightray a fragment of the Life Rock, a strange mineral that allows the user to experience memories, both theirs and others. Lightray goes to Anne's funeral and activates the rock, and he sees the memories of how kind and loving Anne was.
Moved by the experience of his first funeral, Lightray decides to learn how to resurrect Anne, and for that, he seeks Metron's help again. Metron explains that the ability to revive the dead is linked with Apokolips' technology, which Highfather disapproves. However, Lightray can't accept that, and he is determined to bring Anne back to life whatever the cost. Unbeknownst to him, DeSaad and Dispatcher are watching the scene, seeing that Anne's resurrection could be a second chance to get the piece of the Equation.
