Midas is an archdemon of Tartarus with the power to turn everything he touches into gold.
History
He appeared in the Metropolis harbor and made a nuisance of himself transforming all he came in contact with into gold. Superman appeared to confront him, but Midas was actually mystically removed from Metropolis by the evil god Ahriman posing as a mortal man named Mr. Malik.[1]
Ahriman tells Superman that Midas is actually an archdemon from a lower pit of Tartarus, and has been his indentured familiar for several centuries. Midas was used as a distraction by Ahriman and his unholy cabal of dark gods to gain the trust of Superman. Midas later returns summoned by Ahriman, but thanks to the help of Iron of the Metal Men, who defeated the evil god, the magic that kept Midas in the mortal world was undone and he returned to Tartarus.[2]
