The Joker was a hyper-violent and mentally unhinged supervillain in Gotham City who was infected with the Anti-Life Equation and turned into one of the Anti-Living.
History
He was killed by Harley Quinn, who shot him in the stomach with a shotgun.[1]
Jason Todd later found his body and tied it to the front of the Batmobile as a hood ornament. Jim Gordon convinces him to remove the Joker from the Batmobile the following morning after arriving at a Bludhaven orphanage to avoid disturbing the children.[2]
