JLA #51 is an issue of the series JLA (Volume 1) with a cover date of April, 2001.
Synopsis for "Man and Superman"
The League members come face to face with their alter-egos. Wonder Woman and Martian Manhunter check both groups, and discover them both to be, as Plastic Man and Eel O'Brian simultaneously put it, "legit." The alter-egos return to their homes, and Wonder Woman and Aquaman, the only ones not divided, resolve to keep an eye on both groups. As Clark Kent leaves, he discovers that his DNA no longer works for the teleporter, as he is now human.
The alter-egos do their best to adjust to their new lives, as the heroes respond to the mysterious appearance of huge statues all throughout a city, and the manifestation of energy-based powers in the man the statues depict. Apparently, the man had been a beggar who had wished to be noticed, and the above situation was the result. He and the League fight, while he protests that they were never there when he, as a citizen, actually needed them. He is finally defeated through a dangerous form of brain surgery, a process too dangerous for the scrupulous heroes to have usually used. Meanwhile, John Jones, Manhunter's alter-ego, gets into a car accident and is found screaming that he's blind. In Gotham City, Bruce Wayne casually ignores the Bat-Signal. Lastly, in New York City, the police investigate the disappearance of the money in an armored car, while Eel watches miserably from his apartment, saying, "No. Not again."
