Synopsis for "Mad Scientists"
Lieutenant Mazzone questions O'Shea and Fiorello about the Huntress, aware that she and Helena Bertinelli are one and the same. While O'Shea tries to persuade the Lieutenant that the Huntress is working for the good of the city, Mazzone makes him agree to arrest her the next time they meet.
Meanwhile, Huntress meets Tony Angelo outside the Bookworm's hideout. Together, they've prepared a plan that will play on Bookworm's psychological profile, so as to quit playing his game, and make him play theirs. Tony plans to cause a distraction so that Huntress can enact her part of the plan, facing Bookworm one on one.
Another reporter plans to finish Melinda Cooper's article after she was murdered. He attends her funeral and bemoans the heavy presence of drug dealers and the proliferation of crack cocaine on the streets.
Bookworm tests his murder machine one last time before Huntress arrives, but soon he is alerted to the fact that she and Tony have already arrived. He sends his cohorts out to lure the intruders into his machine. However, they are soon lost in a cloud of smoke, and they drop over a fire hose set up by Tony. Huntress finds herself at the end of a long dark hallway with Bookworm standing at the end. He attempts to lure her down the hallway, so that she will trip the wires that activate his murder machine. She notices the wires, however, and uses her gymnastic training to traverse the hallway without tripping any of them.
At the end of the hallway, Huntress throws smoke bombs to draw Bookworm out of hiding. When he hears a puzzle based on Edgar Allan Poe's The Raven, he wonders who could have come up with it. From the smoke emerges his mother, who intimidates and frightens him into running back down the hallway. He sets off his own trap, and is shot to death by the murder machine.
Huntress removes the costume she used to trick the Bookworm, and checks on Tony. He holds Brittany and Picture Man at gunpoint, but he lets them go, inexplicably. He says that one day, he may have the guts to explain why he couldn't pull the trigger.
Elsewhere, a young boy overhears the plans of the Psycho Gang to set off a nuclear device in New York City and claim responsibility. La Bruja lures the boy to her, and manipulates him into telling her what he heard. She hopes to gain the help of the Huntress in stopping the devastation.
