Hecatonchires

The Hecatonchires ("Hundred-Handed Ones") are three monstrous giants, of enormous size and strength, each with fifty heads and one hundred arms.

History

They are the offspring of Gaea the Earth and Uranus the Sky, and brothers of the Cyclopes and the Titans. Because of their ugliness, the Hecatonchires and Cyclopes were imprisoned by their father Uranus in Tartarus, and even after Cronus dethroned Uranus they continued to be held there,[4] until Zeus, son of Cronus, freed them to assist him in the Titanomachy.[5]

They were individually named Cottus, Briareus (or Aegaeon) and Gyges (there is a titan cyclops named Gyges,[6] but it is unrelated).
