Ghosts #11 is an issue of the series Ghosts (Volume 1) with a cover date of January, 1973. It was published on November 2, 1972.

Synopsis for "The Devil's Lake"

A former Nazi general Klaus Dieter attempts to continue his Nazi legacy. He and his men plan to pull off a bank heist to help them establish a new Nazi regime. The general decides on a hideout on the banks of a lake in Bavaria but it is said to be haunted by a Ghostly SS brigade. The ghostly brigade is apparently guarding a lost Nazi treasure. Dieter and his men carry out the bank robbery in full uniform. They are chased back to their hideout by authorities. They reach the hideout and they decide to paddle out to the lake to sink their stolen money and hide their uniforms. As they head for the lake they encounter the ghostly SS brigade. They fire at the ghostly figures but their weapons do no harm. Dieter and his men are dumped in the middle of the lake where they are discovered by authorities as they rule over a watery and ghostly regime.

Synopsis for "Next Stop Is Nowhere"

David Wales and his wife are heading home on October 6, 1961. They spot an entrance to the subway and decide to enter to head home. As they walk into the platform they immediately notice that there are no people and no one else is on the train. The train moves and takes them to their destination. As they are leaving the train they spot a conductor and ask him about the trains next stop. The conductor remarks that the train never stops and then vanishes in front of their eyes like a ghostly figure. As they leave the train they discover that they have been on it for an hour when it should only have taken 15 minutes to get to their stop. As the couple arrives at their apartment, they discover that is is on fire. They head inside and alert everyone to evacuate. They head outside to safety to watch the firemen put out the blaze. They then realize that if they had gotten home sooner, they might have gone to sleep and died in the blaze. Their delay on the strange train had supposedly saved their lives. Wales decides to visit the transport authorities the next day. They are told that a train like that does not exist. They then decide to visit the home of Mrs Emmett to help her clean up her apartment. They run into a portrait of the conductor that they saw on the train. Mrs Emmett explains that it was a portrait of her father who worked as a conductor for 30 years before passing away. The couple reasons that the conductor came back to save his daughters life along with everyone in the apartment complex.

Synopsis for "The Specter Who Stalked Cellblock 13"

Eddie Hayes is destined to be executed at San Quentin prison in 1886. He complains of a deep gash on his leg and is taken to the prison doctor. The gash turns out to be a severe infection and Eddie’s leg is amputated. He is fitted with a prosthetic which he uses to walk to the gallows. Eddie is hanged and his peg leg is removed. Eddie dies begging for the return of his prosthetic. As time passes, the prosthetic is used by several different men. A captain, a miner and a farmer all use the leg and meet a sudden death. The years progress and the scene changes to the present day criminals at San Quentin. They screech and scream that they can hear the ghost of Eddie Hayes as he walks the prison halls with his peg leg. His ghostly figure haunts the prison until it closes.

Synopsis for "The Instrument of Death"

A renowned organist named Edgar Powers visits an ancient mansion known as the Villa Esteban. As he tours the site he runs into an ancient organ that was built by the greatest organ maker of all Pacini. He starts to tough the organ but an old hag suddenly appears and warns him that the organ is cursed. A hundred years earlier, Pacini had sold the organ to a musician that promised to use the organ for nothing but sacred music. He then proceeds to use the organ for a gay party which draws the outrage of Pacini. Pacini is rushes towards the organ but he is struck by its new owner. As Pacini lay dying he proclaims that anyone who touches the keys in the future will hear the music of hell itself in his head. Edgar Powers is amused by the story but decides to play the organ anyway. He suddenly starts to hear a ringing in his head. The ringing is unbearable, he seeks our the old hag. She tells him that the curse might be lifted if he plays an entire mass on the organ. Powers heads back to the mansion and begins to play the instrument as he never has before. In the end he drops dead from a weak heart.

Synopsis for "The Death Circle"

Since 1840, every President voted into office in a year ending in zero has died in office. William Henry Harrison was elected in 1840 and died a month later. Twenty years later, Lincoln was voted into office in 1860 and was assassinated in 1865. James Garfield was elected in 1880 and was assassinated a year later. William McKinley was elected in 1900 and died from an assassin the next year. Warren G Harding was elected in 1920 but died in office as he was on a trip to San Francisco. Franklin D Roosevelt was elected to his second term in 1940 and died in office in 1945. John F Kennedy was elected in 1960 and was assassinated in 1963. ( It is interesting to note that this curse was broken by Ronald Reagan who was elected in 1980 but lived well past his presidential term.)
