An oil company in Dubai discussed the viability of branching out into core fracking, despite the proof of the devastating environmental effects thereof. As the chairman prepared to approve the move, Poison Ivy suddenly burst through the floor and wrapped her vines around the board members' necks. The chairman called in his security guard, who was armed with a toxic defoliant spray. Ivy held two hostages as shields, but relented when she discovered that the chairman was so unscrupulous as to sacrifice his employees. At Ivy's call, the Birds of Prey crashed in through the windows and subdued the security guard. Thinking that the heroines were there to help, the chairman was surprised when Starling put her gun to his head. In disbelief, the chairman complained that they couldn't merely force him to change company policy. At that, Starling pulled the trigger and poisoned him with one of Ivy's toxins.[1]
In Dubai, Superman responded to an emergency at the Burj Khalifa, knowing that it was the work of terrorist group Ascension. They unleashed a modern-day monster on the city, and the tower was beginning to topple with nearly thirty-six thousand people inside it. Unfortunately, the building's height meant he couldn't just push, or it would snap in two. With time running out before it collapsed, he was distracted as the so-called Apollodorus, a ninety-million dollar prototype meant for construction was used to distract him. The device knocked him into the water with only seconds to go and, at that moment, he had an epiphany – he could use the water to create a waterspout, and then freeze it with his freeze breath, so that it would hold up the snapped tower long enough to save lives and take care of the Apollodorus.[2]
Guy Gardner and Ice reclined on a beach in Dubai, coincidentally across from the country of Qurac where the Quraci leader Shahkavat was testing his new powers to dedicate his golden statue. His celebration was short-lived as Guy destroyed the statue and attacked.[3]
In Dubai, Midnighter was on the hunt for body parts from the Paragon Project, but his informant didn't have much information for him. While he was torturing the man, he was visited by Apollo, who warned that Midnighter had done his part, and that it was time to come back to Stormwatch - and his boyfriend. In response, Midnighter dropped his informant from the Burj Khalifa, requiring Apollo to go and catch him, knowing full well that Midnighter would be gone by the time he got back.[4]
In Dubai, a cat-burglar named the Pearl sat on a windowsill, waiting for a member of the local royal family to fall asleep so she could steal from him. However, just before he did, a man entered the room, shapeshifted into a large blue creature with four arms and murdered him. As Pearl was horrified, the murderer told her that she could run, but he could see into her mind, and he already knew how the chase will end.[5]
The night before a yacht race, Bane kidnapped Naja-Naja of the Kobra Cult off a pier in Dubai. Moments later, Bane was confronted by Kobra cultists on the sea. Outnumbered, he fled the scene while Naja-Naja died in an accident on the cult's submarine.[6]
Batman fought Deathstroke in Dubai before confronting him with the possibility of him being Damian's father. Deathstroke denied any such claim and when Batman threatened to shut down every one of his missions, Slade made it clear that it was him who allowed Batman to operate, not the other way around.[7]
