Synopsis for "This Town"

The Broken Man is doing band practice with a bunch of stuffed animals, before stopping when he realises he is being watched by you, the reader. Pausing to introduce them to his mother, a Lego woman who offers to cook pierogies for his friends, the Broken Man describes this location, a phantasmal suburban house floating in a park in Astro City, as his home, "the Dream House". Music is important to the Broken Man, and to Astro City...

The first famous musician associated with Romeyn Falls was from somewhere else - a legendary wandering guitarist of unknown background called "Silverstring", for his magic silver guitar. He traveled the length of America, playing music for the cowboys and the starving and the downtrodden, helping them lift their spirit and beat back the darkness. He made friends of all kinds of human and a few other friends besides, and he died in Romeyn Falls when someone smallminded wanted something he had. His magic guitar was never found.

The first famous dance associated with Romeyn City was from somewhere else - the cakewalk, which was brought to the Bakerville district by migrating African-Americans moving west. It became the basis of the city's ragtime tradition. When it was supressed by local bigots, and then later turned into a fad for rich people, it sparked a mood in Bakerville, an anti-establishment mood in need of release.

And release came in the form of Mister Cakewalk, a populist daredevil who afflicted the comfortable and comforted the afflicted. The police tried to catch him for his affronts to the rich and powerful, but as if by magic, he always evaded them. And the people of Bakerville said nothing, but with a song in their hearts.

But time passed and Bakerville progressed. The Great Migration brought more people to Bakerville and the Great War brought industry jobs, and ragtime fell out of style, to be replaced by jazz - a music style that appealed to everyone, just as the Roaring Twenties were starting. Mister Cakewalk vanished around this time...

...to be replaced by a new populist daredevil, known as the Jazzbaby!
