Two new heroes get updates for the Silver Age: Atom (Ray Palmer) and Hawkman (Katar Hol). The nature of these updated characters is finally explained in the landmark The Flash #123, "The Flash of Two Worlds", which features Barry Allen and Jay Garrick side by side, and introduces the concepts of Earth-One and Earth-Two.
