Sly Spy, known in Japan as Secret Agent (シークレット・エージェント), is a run and gun video game developed by Data East and released in 1989 for arcades. It was ported the next year to various personal computers by Ocean Software.
Story
There was a wicked organization that plotted to start a nuclear war, turn the world into a wasteland, and then achieve world domination. Their name was Dark Specter. Other than that name, nothing else is known about this organization.
Joe, a US secret agent, boldly takes to the skies, the seas, and enemy fortresses to thwart their missile launches and protect the world from their dark ambitions.
Gameplay
Sly Spy is a side-scrolling run and gun game. The player controls the titular secret agent, who comes equipped with a pistol with limited ammo. If the player runs out of ammo the agent will fight bare-handed for the remainder of the level, though enemies constantly drop ammunition. Enemies will also sometimes drop a uzi rifle which the player can pick up and use until it runs out of ammo, as well as parts for the Golden Gun. When fully assembled, the Golden Gun fires a powerful forward blast which penetrates enemies; this weapon has unlimited ammo but the player can only use it for a short period of time.
In addition to the traditional run and gun gameplay some levels have the agent riding on vehicles. The first level starts with a parachuting sequence, while the second level features the agent riding a motorcycle in a car chase sequence. The fourth and seventh levels are played underwater, with the agent using an harpoon gun to fend off enemies.
