Bait is a type of item used to catch fish while fishing with the Fishing Rod in the Dark Cloud series. When fishing the player can use specific types of bait to have an increased chance to catch specific species of fish, with some fish completely ignoring or only going for certain types of bait. Dark Chronicle also introduced lures, which only work with the Lure Rod.
Bait can be obtained from treasure chests, dropped by or stolen from monsters, picked up from broken rocks or crates, and bought in some stores. Fabio from Dark Chronicle is also capable of making a limited amount of bait for free, and also sells all standard types in Flavin's Baitshop, while Olivie sells lures through Olivie's Lures. Bait itself is also used to feed fish and raise their stats, change their gender, and have them gain weight by feeding them in an aquarium.

Lure duplication bug
Repeatedly using the "Put lure on pole" option in the inventory menu, while the Lure Rod with a lure is equipped on Max and viewing another character in the menu, will repeatedly result in extra duplicate lures being stacked onto the lure rod, with the original remaining in the inventory. Exploiting the bug with Max in view will reset the number back to one, but the full stack can be safely removed from the Lure Rod, and then sold for 150 Gilda each.
