Cotton Reboot! is a shoot 'em up video game developed by BEEP and released in 2021 for the Sony PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch.
Overview
Cotton Reboot! is a remake of Cotton: Fantastic Night Dreams, being based off the Sharp X68000 version of the game. The game was entirely remade for widescreen resolutions, featuring all new HD graphics and a remastered soundtrack, all new voiceovers not present in the original game as well as redone cutscenes.
The game plays much like the original, with the only major addition being the new "Jewel Fever" mechanic. Shooting down enemies fills a bar which, when full, can be spent to activate said mode, raising the player's firepower and giving huge point bonuses for enemies shot down.
In addition to the main Arrange Mode, the game also includes a Time Attack mode and a port of the X68000 version of the original game.
Development
Cotton Reboot! was first announced in 2019 by Japanese retailer BEEP and scheduled for release on Microsoft Windows, Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4.[1] The PlayStation 4 and Switch versions were made available on February 25, 2021 as both physical and downloadable releases, while the Windows version will be download-only and released on a different date.[2] In 2020, ININ Games announced that Cotton Reboot! would be released in western regions both physically and digitally for Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 on July 20, 2021.[3][4] An update for Cotton Reboot! was announced on April 2021, featuring Appli and Needle from Cotton 2: Magical Night Dreams as free playable characters, as well as improving screen visibility and bug fixes.[5]
