Exploration Mission

Rogue Corps Exploration Mission Challenger Bet screen
Exploration Missions differ from Main Missions, where its objectives are to collect items, defeat enemies, and reach the treasure waiting for you at the end.
The mission composition changes every attempt, with strong enemies and items the further you progress.
Missions end in a failure if all players are defeated during the mission.
Failing a mission means all items obtained to be confiscated.
~ Rogue Corps Game Guide description.

An Exploration Mission is a type of bonus optional Mission from Contra: Rogue Corps.

Description

These missions become unlocked as gameplay progresses. All of these mission types are playable in Couch Co-Op mode. Unlike other missions, a player is required to perform a "challenge Bet" in order to enter the Mission. The amount of Credits bet by the player is set and determined by Player 1's choice of a challenger bet "Difficulty". There are five known "difficulty" amounts.

Maps are divided into multiple 3-tier segments. While most maps are straightforward in reaching the end, other maps may appear that are small and force the players to fight a boss enemy. At the end of a third segment, a stage clear circle will appear, ending the segment. The players are then taken to a safety room, where they have option to change characters and skins before proceeding to the next Mission segment. Equipmentand Body Parts cannot be swapped, however. Players can also decide to end the Mission prematurely, keeping any loot and exp. obtained. There is an invisible time limit to being inside the Safe Room before players are automatically thrusted into the next segment of the Mission. Higher bet settings yield stronger enemies in terms of health and attack power. In these missions, special crates contain a large bundle of credits inside. Health chargers appear to be somewhat scarce.

Many of the maps may appear identical, with only environmental aesthetics changed. Notably unlike other missions, clearing these missions or receiving a Game Over on them will level up the weapon exp for all player characters' currently equipped weapons and their associated weapon type level (depending on enemies eliminated), even if a character did not enter said Mission. This feature may be contributed to Couch co-op, as any additional players couch co-oping with Player 1's game use that player's save data.
