Prometheus

Prometheus is one of the protagonists of The Conduit and plays a role in Conduit 2.

Profile

Prometheus is first mentioned in Ford's first encounter with the Trust, when Adams claims he is a former Trust scientist who stole valuable technology from the Trust, and later to have turned his own men against him. Prometheus is labeled a terrorist by Adams, and a threat to America at large.

Story Beats

Show: The True Story

After being betrayed by Adams, Ford learns that Prometheus is a former member of the Trust who grew disillusioned and defected, taking with him the All-Seeing Eye (ASE). As Ford progresses in his mission, he encounters Prometheus, now held captive in a chamber, who reveals his complex history and connection to Ford’s enemy, Adams. Prometheus discloses that he served as the genetic template for Adams’ Drudge army, a force revealed to be creatures created on Earth rather than outer space.

Seeking to thwart Adams' plans, Prometheus asks Ford to end his life, a request Ford ultimately honors. However, Prometheus had uploaded his consciousness to the ASE prior to death, allowing him to continue aiding Ford. He instructs Ford on reactivating the Conduit network within the base, enabling his escape from the Trust’s self-destructing headquarters.

Prometheus’ influence extends beyond mere rebellion. He is the inspiration for the mythological Prometheus who defied the gods, gifting humanity with fire and enlightenment. Prometheus shares with Ford his past of instigating a human uprising against their progenitor overlords, whom most of his kind exploited for labor and experimentation. As Ford advances through his mission, absorbing progenitors to prevent their capture by Adams, Prometheus provides moral support, ensuring Ford that their actions are justified.

In a climactic decision, Ford, guided by Prometheus, merges the essence of the last progenitor into the Destroyer armor. This empowers Ford to directly confront Adams, though Prometheus’ presence fades at this point, leaving Adams in uncertainty regarding his fate. Prometheus’ legacy, however, lingers as a symbol of rebellion and support for humanity against oppressive forces.

Speeches and Dialogue

Show: An Uneasy Alliance

Ford: "All right, Prometheus, what's going on here? First you try to kill me, and now you're helping me? Whose side are you on, really?"
Prometheus: "I'm on your side, Michael. I know it's hard to believe, but hear me out."
Prometheus: "Adams has been using you since the beginning. Now that you've served your purpose, he wants you out of the picture."
Ford: "Why should I believe you?"
Prometheus: "Right now, you don't need to, you just need to listen. There's a Drudge nest underneath the Library of Congress."
Prometheus: "It has to be destroyed before they infest the city, and you're the only one who can do it."
Prometheus: "I've given you a suit of Trust armor that we confiscated from one of Adams's weapon caches."
Prometheus: "I haven't been able to completely activate all its functions yet, but it will protect you from some damage, and slowly regenerate your health. I just hope it's enough."
Ford: "Hold on a minute, you still haven't explained what's going on here."
Prometheus: "There's no time Michael! That nest is a ticking bomb, and this city is doomed if it should go off. You've got to hurry!"
Ford: "I'll go along with you for now, but if you're lying to me, I'll take you down, hard. Do you understand me?"
Prometheus: "I would expect nothing less."

Show: The Truth

Prometheus: "Michael? It's Prometheus, I've got the details on our next operation."
Ford: "I'm not lifting a finger until you give me some answers."
Prometheus: "We don't have time for this, Michael... What do you want to know?"
Ford: "First off, what is this ASE, and why do you, and Adams want it?"
Prometheus: "I don't want it, but Adams does. It's a very powerful artifact that is critical to his plans. Plans that you, inadvertently, aided him with."
Ford: "What do you mean?"
Prometheus: "The ASE was developed by scientists working for the Trust. Through it, I convinced them of Adams's true intentions. Then I helped them get it away from him and those 'puppets' he created with the neuro-toxin."
Prometheus: "But then you retrieved the ASE from my men, and, through your visor link, helped Adams convince the President of a vast, powerful conspiracy that only the Trust would be able to combat. Your final transmission, facing down the Drudge at the memorial, sealed the deal."
Prometheus: "As a result, wheels have been put into motion to grant the Trust unprecedented power, and when the President dies, they will take control."
Ford: "The President is in danger? We have to warn him!"
Prometheus: "He won't listen, Michael, Adams has convinced him that you've been turned into a puppet."
Ford: "Then we'll just have to save him ourselves..."

Show: Pentagon Defense

Prometheus: "Michael, we need to move quickly. Drudge forces are converging on the Pentagon!"
Ford: "If they destroy the Pentagon, our defenses will be in chaos!"
Prometheus: "That's not Adams's goal. The Trust believes that to save the country, they must control it. If they get their hands on the defense mainframe, they'll have all the control they need."
Ford: "How many of these schemes does he have in the works?"
Prometheus: He's been planning this campaign for a VERY long time, Michael, and he's planned for every contingency."
Prometheus: "Now get moving, you've got to reach the Pentagon, and I've got to try and activate more of your suit's functions."

Show: Finding the Nest
Ford: "The Drudge are crawling all over the city, haven't you found that nest yet?"

Prometheus: "I've uploaded a geographic profile for the recent Drudge attacks to your visor. The pattern indicates that their staging area is located somewhere near the river district. I've managed to narrow it down to a two mile radius."
Ford: "You want me to wander through miles of hostile territory poking around for a Drudge nest?"
Prometheus: "It's the only way I can get a precise reading. Something out here is interfering with my systems. You'll have to get closer before I can pinpoint the location."
Ford: "And what happens if they pinpoint MY location with a plasma rifle?"
Prometheus: "Actually, Drudge weaponry utilizes a unique bio-mass that can be converted into a variety of damage effects. It's far more versatile than a plasma core and several times as deadly."
Ford: "You do realize that you're not helping."
Prometheus: "And you realize that if we can't locate and cripple the source of these attacks, the capital will be completely under alien control in a matter of days."
Ford: "Fine. I'll start heading in that direction. See if you can isolate a clear entry point."

Trivia

  • Prometheus' body is that of a Royal Scarab seen in stasis in The Trust Base. He appears to be about the same height as an average human, and his limbs are noticeably skinnier in proportion to the gigantic Scarabs that Ford had faced before, indicating that the Scarabs were a result of extensive modifications of Prometheus' DNA.
  • Prometheus' line "One person can make all the difference..." is a well known line spoken by the G-man from Half-Life
  • Prometheus was named after the Greek Titan that gave fire to Humans. Prometheus was imprisoned for his act by Zeus.
  • True to the name, Prometheus' symbol is that of a flame.
  • There is a interesting tidbit about Prometheus and his voice actor Kevin Sorbo: Kevin Sorbo played Hercules in Hercules: The Legendary Journeys. It is interesting to note that, in Greek mythology, Hercules is the one to free Prometheus from his imprisonment. It is unknown if HVS intended this.
  • True to the story of Prometheus giving fire to humans, in the dialogue between Enlil and the unknown alien, the alien is quoted as saying "So, the betrayer has given fire to the humans," in this case the "fire" is a metaphor for knowledge of the conspiracy and the Trust.
  • Prometheus is similar to Atlas from Bioshock because they are both named after titans and assist the main protagonist via radio.
  • Despite being able to sense each other, Adams couldn't tell where Prometheus was after his sacrifice, also is interesting to note that he says that he sensed three progenitors coming from inside Ford, but he had supposedly absorbed four. This may be linked to the cutscene of an alien similar to Prometheus awakening at the end of The Conduit after the credits, and may lead to Prometheus coming back to life in that body during Conduit 3.
  • Prometheus is the only known arthropodic (Insectoid) progenitor, all the others shown are reptilian.
