“ | Now that we've destroyed Yuri's primary source of funds, the madman has decided to take a more direct approach. Yuri has set up a Nuclear Silo in Seattle and is using it to extort money and technical expertise from the MassiveSoft corporation. We must save the city and MassiveSoft from Yuri's nuclear threat. - Mission briefing |

Operation: Power Play is the third mission of the Allied campaign in Yuri's Revenge.[1]
Background
“ | Attention Allied commander, your unprovoked attack will not go unpunished. Seattle is mine. Pull your forces out of the area, or I will launch a nuclear strike and reduce the city to ash. - Yuri (unused cutscene) |
” |
After a fabulous mission in Hollywood, the Allies soon learned that Yuri had set up base and a Soviet nuclear missile silo, using it as a leverage to coerce Massivesoft Corporation into supplying his army with funding and technology (foreshadowing Genetic Mutator). Not wanting a repeat event like Chicago in the original war, General Carville sent the Allied Commander to neutralize Yuri's threat.
Aftermath
With the rescue of Seattle, Yuri's army was forced out of the US West Coast by the Allies. But all was not lost for the would-be psychic conqueror, for he had developed a Genetic Mutator with the unwilling help from Massivesoft. Furthermore, Yuri decided to accelerate his plans and kidnapped Professor Einstein, and force him to finish the Psychic Dominator in Cairo, Egypt.

Walkthrough
You'll start with a weather control device, a war factory, a barracks, two power plants, and three tech civilian power plants. Units defending them consist of snipers, Grizzly tanks, GIs, guardian GIs, infantry fighting vehicles (IFV), and Mirage tanks. Yuri has a strong presence in the city, along with a nuclear missile silo and a new marksman unit called Virus. This unit can kill foot soldiers with one shot, releasing a tiny bio-toxic cloud that can potentially do further damage. The higher the difficulty, the more buildings Yuri has garrisoned.
Train two engineers to capture the tech oil derricks (not necessary on the easy difficulty) followed by two snipers. Build as many Grizzly tanks as you can. Garrison the Space Needle to reveal some or all of the map (depending on the difficulty level).
Once the timer of the weather control device reaches zero, target the bio reactors near Yuri's nuclear missile silo. (Take care not to destroy anything else that consumes power.) The strike won't stop the first nuke from launching, but it will be the last nuke. Once the nuke launches, sell your two power plants and war factory before the nuke destroys them. Repair the weather control device caught in the nuclear blast. At this point, you must destroy or capture one of Yuri's tech civilian power plants before the next nuke launches. Send your snipers into IFVs, giving them protection and speed. Use them to eliminate Yuri clones and the Virus, before having your tanks take on Yuri's armored platoon.
With the pressure of another nuclear strike gone, focus on fortifying your positions and taking the rest of the city. Reinforce your armored units with Repair IFVs to improve their life expectancy. Capture a tech machine shop between your southern and southeastern power plants to further help your vehicle auto-repair. Also, capture a neutral war factory to the southeast to resume vehicle production. Finally, capture the power plant south of the war factory to bring your superweapon back online.
Liberate the Massivesoft Campus by eliminating units surrounding it. This is one of your objectives. You'll receive a cash bonus for doing so.
The bridge north of the Massivesoft Campus leads to Yuri's base. Clear the other end of the bridge with your superweapon before sending snipers, followed by the rest of your units. Alternatively, you may wish to take over more of Yuri's power plants so that you can destroy his production buildings without risking the nuclear missile silo coming back online.
Once you destroy the missile silo, the mission will be over.
Tips
- Yuri's nuclear missile silo cannot be destroyed with a single Lightning Storm strike.
- There's no need to defend every tech civilian power plant. An alternative strategy is to destroy them to deny Yuri, then have the defending units join the main force. Doing so, however, means you'll lose access to your superweapon, which you can sell.
- Engineers are essential. Send one to capture the local tech machine shop. Assign the remaining to infantry fighting vehicles for quick field repairs.
- Originally, it was possible to prevent the Nuclear Missile Silo from launching the missile even once. The player would need to use the Weather Control Device to destroy the Bio Reactors and capture or destroy the nearest purple Power Plant.
- Snipers can do more than gunning down Yuri's infantry. They can provoke Yuri's vehicles, luring them into an ambush.
- Defend your oil derricks, as they are your only source of steady income.
Trivia
- Massivesoft Corporation is a parody of the real-world Microsoft Corporation, headquartered in Redmond, Washington, not far from Seattle. CEO Bing's appearance has elements of Microsoft's former CEO, Bill Gates.
- An unused cutscene in the game (A03_P02E) shows Yuri warning the Allied commander for an unprovoked attack in Seattle.
- The superweapons in this mission need 710 points of energy, much higher than the usual 200.
- Originally, neither of the parties could use their superweapons if the superweapons setting in the Skirmish lobby had been turned off. This has since been fixed.
