- For Club Penguin Island (mobile app)'s map, see Map (CPI).
The map was an interactive object in Club Penguin that could be used as fast transportation to many rooms, mostly outdoor ones. It was accessible from the blue map icon in the bottom-left corner of the screen. It also opened if the player tried to enter a full room. When opened, a view of Club Penguin Island could be seen, with icons for various rooms, with text displaying the name of the room when a room icon was hovered over. Clicking an icon instantly transported the player to that room. Some rooms, such as the Iceberg, did not have their name appear when hovered over, and were regarded as "secret rooms". Some rooms also could not be accessed by walking to them, and required the map (or Spy Phone/EPF Phone) to access.
Originally, the map was very simplistic and mostly just featured room icons, although some were more abstract and did not necessarily reflect the design of the room (the original Town icon on the map featured many buildings, even though the Town always only had three). Some icons for rooms were shown well before the rooms they represented opened, such as the Beach and Mine Shack icons. On November 3, 2008, when the Dig Out the Dojo project began, the map received a visual update, and all room icons on the map were changed to accurately reflected the design of the room.
On June 27, 2011, the map was redesigned to have much more detail and geography visible, with trees, lakes, and mountains. New buttons were added to the top-left corner of the map that allowed for access to even more rooms, including several indoor rooms. The "places" button highlighted the outdoor rooms, except the Iceberg. The following buttons were for specific features, and when clicked, caused a yellow arrow to appear in the room that pointed at the feature represented in the icon that was clicked: the "games" button displayed icons for almost all minigames, the "shops" button displayed icons for almost all catalogs, and the "pets" button displayed icons for things relating to puffles, such as places they could be interacted with, games featuring them, and games they could be brought to.

Update history
2005
- August 22: The map has its original design. The rooms present were the Ski Village, Dock, Town, Ice Rink, and Dojo, which was hidden and could be accessed by clicking a small spot on a mountain at the top of the map. There was also an igloo icon, that could be used to view the igloo of anyone online.
- September 12: The Snow Forts were added.[1] Additionally, on or shortly before this day, the public igloo list was removed.[2]
- December 20: Public igloos returned[3], but rather than list all online players like before, players with membership could temporarily open their igloo by clicking the lock icon in their igloo. This would cause them to appear on the list when clicking the igloo on the map, and it remained opened until the player locked it again or logged off.
2006
- Early in the year: The Mountain's icon is now separate from the Ski Village's, so the Mountain can be visited directly from the map. Previously, the clickable area for the Ski Village included the Mountain.
- Late February-early March: The Plaza is added.
- March 29: The Iceberg, which was hidden (no name when hovering over), is added.[4]
- Late May-early June: The Mine Shack, which was hidden (no name when hovering over), is added. Although it was already on the map, it could not be clicked.
- June 16: The Beach is added. Although it was already on the map, it could not be clicked.
2007
- May 29: The Forest and Cove are added.
- November 17: The Stage now appears in the Plaza's icon.
2008
- August 26: The Soccer Pitch appears on the map for the first time, having replaced the Ice Rink until that December. The two rooms would swap every several months.
- November 3: The map is redesigned to have more accurate room icons. The Dojo can no longer be accessed directly, and is replaced with the new Dojo Courtyard, which is no longer hidden as the Dojo once was. At this time, the courtyard's icon shows the Dojo covered in snow.
- November 17: The Dojo is no longer covered in snow.
2011
- June 27: The map is redesigned to have much more detail, along with the addition of buttons to access rooms featuring games, catalogs, and things relating to puffles. This update also showed more post-2008 changes to rooms that were not reflected in room icons on the map from the previous design, such as the Sport Shop being replaced by the Everyday Phoning Facility or the addition of the Recycling Plant and garden next to the Mine Shack.
2013

- May 23: The Ninja Hideout no longer appears in the Dojo Courtyard's icon, as the room was closed.
- July 11: The Recycling Plant is replaced by the new School in the Mine Shack's icon.
- December 19: A quest button, represented by a blue hexagon with an exclamation mark, was added to the right side of the map. When clicked, it opened a tray on the right side of the screen. In the Introduction to Club Penguin, this tray was used to display small quests for new players to complete after first logging in, but it never ended up serving any other purpose.
2014
- January 16: A larger igloo is added next to the public member igloos. This larger igloo transports the player to their own igloo.
- April 17: The Puffle Park is added. The Puffle Hotel now appears in the Plaza's icon, although it opened a year prior.
- September 18: The Skatepark is added.
2015
- March 26: The Puffle Wild is added, replacing the river behind the Ski Village.
- June 4: The Stage is replaced by the new Mall in the Plaza's icon.
Missions & video games
During PSA Secret Missions, the map could be accessed, but was limited to specific rooms that were relevant to the mission. In some of the older missions, some indoor rooms could be directly accessed from the map due to the mission not containing the outdoor room they were "part" of. For instance, in PSA Mission 1: Case Of The Missing Puffles, the Pet Shop could be accessed, but not the Plaza. At certain points in some missions, the map cannot be accessed, usually at the start of end of a mission when the player is required to talk to a character to progress. The map is also temporarily lost at some points, such as during the crashes into the Wilderness in PSA Mission 2: G's Secret Mission and PSA Mission 6: Questions for a Crab.
In Club Penguin: Elite Penguin Force, whether during a mission or free play, the map can be used to visit any outdoor room (except the Cove which is absent from the game), as well as the Dojo. In Club Penguin: Elite Penguin Force: Herbert's Revenge, like in PSA missions, the map cannot be used to access rooms that are not relevant to the mission. Both games disable the map while a story event is occurring. In Club Penguin: Game Day!, the map can be used at any time, although only half of the outdoor rooms appear in the game. Each room icon on the map is decorated with colored decorations that updates to reflect which team has conquered that room at the time.
Party buttons
Since the Island Adventure Party 2011 (first party after June 2011 map redesign), most parties had a note appear on the top of the map. Clicking "Go There!" on the note transported the player to a specific room, usually one that was central to a party-specific feature, allowed a quest to be started, etc. These notes stopped appearing in mid-2014, except The Fair 2015 and Prehistoric Party 2016. During The Fair 2014, Future Party, and The Fair 2015, there was instead a button to switch to the party map, displaying the Amazement Park (Fairs) or the future (Future Party).

Party maps
Since Rockhopper's Quest, there have been alternate maps, existing alongside the normal map, that specifically displayed party rooms. Some of these maps could be swapped to from a button on the normal map (and swapped back), while some only appeared in specific locations.
- Rockhopper's Quest: Club Penguin, Black, Dinosaur, and Shipwreck Islands (could only be accessed after completing the quest)
- Prehistoric Party 2013, Prehistoric Party 2014, and Prehistoric Party 2016: Prehistoric rooms
- Star Wars Takeover: Tatooine, Death Star, and Yavin 4

- Music Jam 2014: Music Cruise
- Inside Out Party: Rockhopper's Mind
Trivia
- On October 16, 2008, the maps in PSA missions were updated, primarily to capitalize the names of rooms. However, this caused inaccuracies, as some of the updated maps did not match the time period the missions were released in:
- The Forest and Cove both were added to the mission 3 map, and the Forest was also added to the mission 1 and 2 maps, despite neither room debuting until after mission 3 was released. Additionally, there was never a time when the Forest was on the in-game map but the Cove was not, as both were added to the in-game map at the same time.
- The Stage did not appear in the mission 6 map, despite already debuting months before this mission was released.
- The map was sometimes updated during parties to reflect changes during parties, typically darker skies at Holiday and Halloween parties. This first appeared during the Holiday Party 2009, and mostly showed the island darkened, with light glowing from buildings.
- The Holiday Party 2013 was the first time the map reflected room designs during parties. This occurred again at many parties in 2014, and a few early 2015 parties. The only time this change occurred since then was the Frozen Fever Party 2016, which reused the same map as 2015 with small changes.
- After the redesign in June 2011, a lake with multiple rocks was added south of the Plaza. This lake resembled the one seen in the Welcome Solo room, although the room could only be visited once when first logging into a new account, and was never accessible from the map or otherwise.
- Although the June 2011 redesign of the map introduced many buttons for games, catalogs, and puffle-related features, not all were included. While a few were not initially present and were added later (such as Martial Artworks, and almost all of the "Pets" icons), several never appeared. The missing minigames and catalogs were:
- Games: Find Four, Mancala, Paint By Letters (later removed from the game), and Treasure Hunt (the Migrator never appeared on the map)
- Shops: Rockhopper's Rare Items (the Migrator never appeared on the map), and neither the Furniture Catalog, Igloo Catalog, nor the combined Furniture & Igloo Catalog
- When the Holiday Party 2013 ended, the lights on the Ice Rink from the party design of the map remained. The design was eventually fixed after the Puffle Party 2014 ended (the map icon was different during the party).
