Barthou is one of the residents found roaming around the central part of Peach Town. When speaking to him, he will suggest that the protagonist takes the southern road out of Peach Town. This road will eventually lead to the world's biggest bridge, called the Island Bridge. Barthou believes they should check out the Island Bridge and mentions that the protagonist can get some pictures taken near there, referring to the Quick-Pic Shops within the area.

Barthou is one of the many recruitable teammates available within Peach Town. The only requirement to recruit him is to beat him at Oval Raceway or Slick Track, as they are the only courses he appears in.

When recruiting Barthou, he says that the protagonist is really slow and believes that he could help them out. Upon declining, he'll move on, stating that it is the protagonist's loss for not having him be a part of their team. If the protagonist chooses to make Barthou a teammate, he will happily state that the protagonist made a good choice. Afterwards, he feels pretty confident in the protagonist's racing skills and wishes them good luck and hopes for the best for their team.
