Chapter 84

Hero of Hell ( () (ごく) のヒーロー Jigoku no Hīrō?) is the 84th Chapter of the Chainsaw Man manga series.

Summary

Chainsaw Man stands above the decapitated Hell Devil, as one of the Devil Hunters gives blood to revive it. As he does, a door above them opens up, as the Hell Devil's hand emerges and crushes Chainsaw Man, transporting him to Hell. From a nearby building, Makima watches, commenting on the outcome to Kishibe, who has a gun pointed to her head.

Makima notes that shooting her would be useless, as she has a deal with the Prime Minister of Japan to transfer all attacks made against her to a random Japanese citizen. Asking why she remains calm even with the Chainsaw Devil being cast into Hell, Makima responds that it will return to save her. Kishibe, in horror, asks Makima what she truly is, to which she responds she's "A Fan" of the Chainsaw Devil. As she continues talking, scenes of the Chainsaw Devil tearing through various Devils in Hell are seen. She explains that within Hell, the 'Chainsaw Man' is known as the 'Hero of Hell'. When it hears a cry for help, the Chainsaw Devil moves in, eviscerating every Devil it faces, friend or foe. Makima then explains the ultimate power of the Chainsaw Devil: Any Devil consumed by it has their names- and therefore their entire being- erased from existence. Faced against such an unstoppable opponent, all other Devils either despise, fear, or worship the Chainsaw Devil.

Kishibe expresses doubt that such a power could exist, however Makima retorts by asking him what he knows of the Holocaust. It is then revealed that Kishibe, alongside humanity at large, has no knowledge of Nazism. Makima continues, explaining that almost every major crisis faced by humanity- World War II; AIDs; Nuclear Weapons, etc.- were all erased from existence by the Chainsaw Devil. She goes on to explain that even universal constants, such as humanity's Sixth Sense, and the 'Four Possible Conclusions Other Than Death' at the end of life, were also erased. Makima elaborates, explaining that even she cannot remember these things, though she remembers the fight between their Devils and the Chainsaw Devil.

Kishibe asks Makima's intentions with the Devil, reasoning that she desires to destroy the world. Makima instead reveals the true nature of her own ability: to control any being that she believes is lesser than herself. Therefore, if she were to defeat the Chainsaw Devil in combat, she would be able to control it, and use its powers to create a world without pain, war or death. Kishibe asks what she would do if she lost and was eaten, to which she replies that as a fan of the Chainsaw Devil, it would be a happy, honorable ending. Turning back to the window, Makima notes Chainsaw Man's return, as the door to Hell reopens and the Chainsaw Devil emerges, showered in blood and organs.
