Peter Wingfield portrayed Gara Singh, the Director of the Global Defense Department on Caprica. He appeared in six episodes.

Biography

Peter Wingfield was born on September 5, 1952, in Cardiff, Wales.^[1] He initially pursued medical training at Oxford University and St. Bartholomew’s Medical College in London. One month before he was due to graduate, he made the decision to leave and pursue acting as a full-time career. In 1990, whilst at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, Peter won the BBC’s Carleton Hobbs Award for radio drama.

He landed his first television acting role as a taxi driver in the movie Antonia and Jane. His qualification that led to his selection for the part: he knew how to drive.

Over the next few years, Wingfield became a British television staple and starred in numerous productions including Soldier Soldier, Medics, and the BBC mini-series Martin Chuzzlewit, as well as filming several series of commercials for Sega. Two episodes of Highlander: The Series turned into a recurring role as Methos, the oldest living Immortal and brought him to North America in 1996.

Wingfield has appeared in numerous North American television productions for both Canadian and United States companies, including: 24, CSI: Miami, NCIS: Los Angeles, Sanctuary, Human Target, Caprica, Stargate SG-1, Halloweentown II: Kalabar’s Revenge, and the Miracle of the Cards for which he was nominated for a Gemini award. In the summer of 2006, Wingfield returned to the United Kingdom for one year to join the cast of the popular medical drama Holby City as Surgical Consultant Daniel Clifford and in 2010, he was featured in Riverworld, playing Richard Burton.

In feature films, Wingfield has appeared in X2: X-Men United, Highlander: Endgame and Highlander: The Source (reprising the role of Methos), The Edge of Madness, and Uncovered. In 2006, he played the title role in The Last Sin Eater directed by Michael Landon Jr. for Fox Faith Pictures.

In addition to film and stage, for two years in the mid-1990s, Wingfield played the “deliciously despicable” Simon Pemberton on the long running BBC radio drama The Archers.  

Although officially “retired” as a Trampoline National Champion, Wingfield is still a focused athlete. He holds an Advanced Level Stage fighting certificate, runs as often as his schedule allows and ran for Team UNICEF in the 2009 ING NYC Marathon.

In August 2011, Wingfield put his acting career on the back burner as he returned to medical school to become a doctor.^[2]

He attended medical school at The University of Vermont, graduating in May 2015. He interned at Scripps Mercy Hospital, San Diego, California (2015-2016). He did his anesthesiology residency at The University of California at San Diego. He was the Adult Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology Fellow at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center from 2019-2020. Since 2020, Wingfield has been the Attending Anesthesiologist at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, Los Angeles, California.^[3]
