The Seeder is a Cryptid that appears in the Mayday chapter of Extinction.
Description
The Seeder is almost identical in appearance to the Seekers, except that they have yellow pores on their backs instead of red. These pores on its back are its weak point, and the Seeder has no armor on its body at all, just like a Seeker. Like Seekers, they will explode upon death, which can cause damage to nearby players. Unlike Seekers, the Seeders will never choose to willingly explode, only doing so upon death.
Seeders have two projectile attacks, and they cannot swipe the player or a Sentry Gun directly. When the Seeder is preparing to launch either of its projectile attacks, it will make a distinct sound, and when it fires its projectile attacks, it will make a different distinct sound. Any damage caused by a Seeder is going to be from their projectile attacks.
Their first projectile attack is to fire an acidic gas cloud much like a Scorpion would, capable of dealing damage on contact and leaving a residual cloud that can further harm players, as well as slowing player movement and turning speed. The Seeder's second projectile attack is to lay down a Seeder Turret. The Seeder Turret makes a distinct sound when it is planted. This Seeder Turret can spawn on any surface, so it can be placed on the ground, on the side of a wall, or on the ceiling of an interior area. Seeder Turrets will periodically shoot at players with a hitscan attack, similar to bullets. The Seeder Turrets can only be damaged on the moving head portion of the turret.
Killing a Seeder has a base kill reward of $1000. The Seeder Turret has a base kill reward of $25.
Seeders have a moderate-high amount of health. Its health threshold sits in between Hunters and Phantoms. The Seeder is capable of being killed instantly in a single Venom-X shot, although good aim is generally required. Of all the Cryptids in Extinction that have a base $1000 kill reward, the Seeder is the most fragile of them.
Behaviour
The Seeder's behaviour is much like that of a scorpion. It behaves much more passively than the other cryptids. It is rare for the Seeder to approach the player in close proximity. When it spawns in, the Seeder will move and jump around until it gets into an area that is some distance away from a player, but usually an area that has a clear line of sight on said player. While the Seeder is on the move, it is common to see the Seeder climbing walls and even moving on the ceilings of indoor areas. The Seeder is also capable of standing on these surfaces when it decides to attack. The Seeder climbing a wall or walking on a ceiling tends to have its back fully exposed, making it easy to target its weak point.
The nature of a Seeder's attacks means that it is generally not a direct threat to the Laser Drill, as it typically only does damage to the drill coincidentally if it uses an acid attack at a player standing right near the Laser Drill.
The usage of the Seeder's projectile attacks is dependent on what its current focus is. If the Seeder's attention is focused on a player, it will only use its acid attack in attempts to hit the player. If the Seeder is not focused on a player, it will be using its Seeder Turret planting attack. If the Seeder is focusing on planting Seeder Turrets, it will be doing this for an extended period of time, as one Seeder is capable of planting in excess of a dozen Seeder Turrets, if not more. The Seeder fires its projectile attacks in a consistent one at a time pattern, typically waiting 3 to 4 seconds before beginning its next projectile attack in its volley.
The player's in-game character will alert the presence of Seeders as they spawn in, but can refer to them as Seeders or Spores.
Seeders only begin spawning in as part of the normal spawn waves once the player(s) reaches the cargo bay area. However, Seeders are capable of spawning in as part of any of the side door spawn waves after the first two hives are completed. On Hardcore difficulty or in regular difficutly Multiplayer, Seeders can spawn in during the second hive in the docking area. Seeders typically only spawn one at a time at specific intervals. During the final Kraken fight, in solo play, only one or two seeders will spawn in during the entire fight, and will only spawn in the first cycle of the fight. In multiplayer, Seeders will spawn in during all four cycles of the fight, and usually anywhere from 2 to 4 Seeders per cycle will spawn in.
