Beenox, also abbreviated to BX [2], is an Activision-owned video game developer company located in Québec City, Québec, Canada. The studio was founded in 2000 and worked mainly as a porting studio. On May 25, 2005, Activision acquired Beenox which became one of its subsidiaries.[3]
History
Beenox involvement with the Call of Duty franchise began with the release of Call of Duty: Black Ops III on the seventh generation of consoles in 2015. The next year, Beenox assisted Raven Software on the development of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered.
Since 2018, Beenox is responsible for the PC port of Call of Duty titles, with assistance from Blizzard Entertainment. In 2020, Beenox worked on remastering of the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 campaign becoming the lead studio on the project with the release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered. In 2021, Beenox worked on an updated version of Rebirth Island that was released in Call of Duty: Warzone during the Season Three of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. Beenox was also the lead developer for The Battle of Verdansk event featured in Warzone for the reveal of Call of Duty: Vanguard.
On August 3st, 2021, Activision confirmed during an investor's call that on unannounced Call of Duty title for mobile platforms is in development, being developed by a new internal mobile studio, together with Beenox and Activision Shanghai Studio. [4] Later, on March 10th, 2022, Activision officially confirmed that Beenox, Digital Legends Entertainment, Activision Shanghai Studio, Solid State Studios and Demonware, are developing a mobile version of Call of Duty: Warzone. [5]
In 2024, Beenox worked on the modernizing of Rebirth Island, which was brought to Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0 at the launch of Season Three of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III.
