And that proves you are all insane! Why would you ever try to leave Mobius?
— Kensuke Hibiki

Kensuke Hibiki is a first-year student in Kishimai High School who has been trapped in Mobius for two years. Originally one of the Ostinato Musicians by the name Kagi-P, he joins the Go-Home Club after being defeated.

Appearance

Kensuke has short blond hair and gray eyes. He also wears black rectangular-framed glasses. He wears a modified version of the school outfit, with a white sweater instead of the usual dress shirt. He also wears a black scarf with several embroidered flowers similar to his Catharsis Effect's flowers. Instead of the school outfit's dress shoes, he wears black boots with bright yellow socks.

His Catharsis Effect's weapon takes the form of a large flat-ended claymore. One side of it is white, and the other side of it is black; this side has three notches near the base that intersect with the centerpiece. The centerpiece is also white, with a flower symbol near the arrow-shaped tip. The blade is curved at the bases, which connects to the large black guard. The handle is black and takes the appearance of twisted-together pieces of metal, and the pommel has a large spike at the end. In this form, his right hand up to the forearm is blackened, and his outfit is also shredded similarly.

His Catharsis Effect item is illustrated as a set of four white petal-like wings with black tips. It also appears to shred the back of his shirt. In-game, he has six white petal-like pieces that hang like armor behind his back, and the effects of this on his back are hidden by his coat or simply not modelled.

Personality

Kensuke was at first shown to be cool and confident, but by the Stork Arc, this mask is completely dropped.

Kensuke is actually quite cunning, sending Naruko Morita on a wild goose chase during the Sweet-P arc. He’s also shown to be a bit of a pervert, especially during the Stork arc. He’s very much a teenage boy in that respect.

However, he is shown to be apologetic if it makes people uncomfortable. Ayana Amamoto once tells him this, and it seems to click in his head that he’s been making her uncomfortable, and he deeply apologizes to her for his actions.

Once, Kensuke was born to a pair of ordinary parents, who while acceptable as parents, were lacking in any sort of special talent or quality, particularly his father, who was the epitome of the Japanese salaryman. Unable to accept the idea of being as generic as his father, he attempted to develop his own talent as a music composer, but found he lacked the ability. In wishing he could forever remain a child full of hope and possibility, μ's song would take him to Mobius.

Some time before the start of canon, Kensuke was recruited into the Ostinato Musicians as "Kagi-P". While he found the fame and validation he was seeking as a Musician, he was known as the newest and weakest of their number.

He quickly joined the Go-Home Club after being beaten. He talks to the Protagonist after his choice to betray the musicians, asking them if they know if they truly want to go home.

In his character episodes, Kensuke is shown to deeply regret being a musician, choosing to go off on his own and return any fans of his music to sanity until the Protagonist and Aria catch him. They agree to back him up, and Kensuke soon meets Bluemon.

Bluemon is a middle-aged salaryman who is aware of the realities of Mobius, and he doesn't care. He thinks that Kensuke's optimism of returning to reality is unrealistic, and he shakes Kensuke to his core by speaking about how much he hates life as an adult.

Kensuke's deep dive is performed soon after this, where we learn about how scared he was to become a boring adult. He always pretended to not care, pretended to be cool because he thought working hard for what he wanted was lame. The Protagonist then helps him realize that reality can't be all that bad and that he can do whatever he wants.

Kensuke soon writes lyrics without µ's help, and manages to convince Bluemon that reality isn't all that bad and perhaps he still can chase his dreams. He then promises that he will work and end up in the music industry, and even if he never makes it big, he'll do his best to make something meaningful.

"So don't stop watching me till I'm six-feet under, Senpai."

Kensuke parallels the Protagonist. This parallel is very evident in Overdose and the anime. Kensuke and the Protagonist have both been aligned with the Go-Home Club and Ostinato Musicians at some point in time, and are both traitors, and in the anime, Ritsu Shikishima is a talented adult who has massive social anxiety, while Kensuke is an untalented minor who is scared of the future. They were both initially hesitant but went back to reality at the end.

This parallel makes them intrigue each other. Kensuke joined the Go-Home Club because of the protagonist, and he tends to question them about whether they truly want to go home.

However, in the Musician Ending, this parallel makes Kensuke detest the Protagonist. At this point, they have fully switched sides. Lucid is a musician, and Kensuke is a Go-Home Club member. The president and Kagi-P are no more. Kensuke remarks that he never expected this, and he goes all-out against Lucid alongside the rest of the Go-Home Club, only to lose and die.
