Toru

Toru was a vampire leader of his own sect in Tokyo, Japan.[1] He owned a large company that specialized in robotics.[2]

Biography

During a game of pai gow with a drunk Dracula in Tibet, Toru wagered a motorcycle against the magic behind Dracula's powers. Dracula later suspected Toru of cheating and regretted allowing Kumiko Ishihara, Toru's witch associate, to deal the tiles.[1]

Toru and his followers planned to build a giant lens that would be used in conjunction with the Scythe to depower all Slayers.[2] First, he tested out a smaller lens on Aiko, and the Slayer was rendered powerless. Toru then broke her jaw before killing her.[1]

After Toru stole the Scythe from the Slayer Organization command center in Scotland,[3] Buffy and her squad arrived in Tokyo to retrieve it from the vampires. During the confront between Buffy and the powerful vampires, Toru killed Renee, a Slayer that Xander had fallen for, by impaling her from behind with the Scythe.[2] Willow then used Dracula's sword to cast Augustine's curse reversal on Toru's giant lens, and the spell robbed the Japanese vampires of their shapeshifting powers.[4]

While the Slayers were able to gain the upper hand in battle, Toru attacked Dracula, claiming that he too had become an "ordinary vampire." Dracula easily defeated Toru, snatching his sword from him and using it to slice off all of Toru's limbs. Toru demanded that Dracula kill him to preserve Toru's honor. Dracula refused, claiming that Toru knew nothing about true honor. Then Dracula handed his sword to Xander, who avenged Renee's death by beheading Toru.[4]
