Once Bitten

The subject of this article is of alternative canonicity. While created as part of licensed material, it is not part of the original Buffyverse, but its own developed story.

Once Bitten is the second volume of the Buffy the Vampire Slayer trade paperbacks, collecting issues five to eight of the comic book series. It was originally published on February 19, 2020, by Boom! Studios.

Synopsis

Buffy Summers — the Slayer, the Chosen One meant to save the world from the literal evil forces of hell — must save her friend Xander before he dies… and returns as a vampire. As Giles and Willow each take drastic measures to find a cure, Buffy faces off against a new enemy.^[1]

Behind the scenes

Production

• The cover artwork is the same as in the issue Buffy the Vampire Slayer #8. It features Buffy and Angel dressed as herself and Pike in the Buffy the Vampire Slayer film. The staked vampire was modeled after the character Edward from The Twilight Saga films.^[2]

Distribution

• Once Bitten was the 53rd best selling graphic novels in its publishing month, with 1,403 sales in February 2020 at comic specialty stores.^[3]
