MacGuffin

Note: This article is about the creature. For the comic story, see MacGuffins.
The subject of this article is non-canonical.
While created as part of licensed material, it has not been confirmed as part of the "real" Buffyverse continuity.

MacGuffin was a type of mystical creature. Watchers would traditionally selected them to test their Slayers.

History

While Buffy Summers was on summer vacation, Rupert Giles made a bet with two MacGuffins that she could beat the current record, of the Slayer Garnhuld in 561 A.D., by two days. After they trashing the house while taunting her, Buffy beat the record, but fell two hours short of winning the bet for Giles.

The trick to make them passive, as Buffy discovered, was to slam them into each other, which caused the MacGuffins to give electric shocks to each other, interlocking their arms, and become disoriented. After this, they simply accepted the conclusion of the challenge.

Buffy then sent the MacGuffins back to Giles, daring him to catch them, and called this a new tradition. According to her, they liked houseflies.[1]
