HIA873 was the Californian license plate of Spike's black 1959 DeSoto Fireflite car. To be able to drive during daytime, the vampire had its windows blacked out with spray paint and kraft paper.[1][2]
History
In 1997, Spike arrived in Sunnydale, running over its welcome sign with the car.[3] He also used it to drive to the Sunset Club.[4] Spike eventually left the town in the same car, while holding an unconscious Drusilla, after running it over the door of Crawford Street mansion's garage.[1]
In 1998, Spike returned to Sunnydale and once again ran over its welcome sign with his car, but this time falling over its door drunk and alone. He left in the following day, driving the car while listening and singing to the Sex Pistols in the daylight.[2]
The car was last seen in 2001, when Spike drove Buffy to a stakeout at night. He offered her a flask of bourbon from its glove compartment, and declared to Buffy he loved her in the same night. Notably, the windows of the car were completely clear this time.[5]
