Synopsis
Introduction arc
In the mortal world, Lin Lang and Yuchi Yi look on from a distance as Tiangong Sui and Cang Wuzi take a newborn baby away from the imperial palace of the Emperor. Lin Lang is baffled that an esteemed cultivator like Cang Wuzi would attempt to disguise himself as a Jianghu conman to trick mortals. Yuchi Yi tells her to quiet down, however, an irritated Lin Lang replies that their new disciple was taken away before they got to the child. Yuchi Yi questions her whether the child taken away was truly the new disciple they were tasked to take. Holding up a spiritual energy detector, Yuchi Yi notices that the spiritual artifact does not react anymore, signifying that the intended new disciple of the spiritual world has already left and is likely not the infant taken away by Tiangong Sui and Cang Wuzi. Annoyed, Lin Lang grabs Yuchi Yi by his scarf and drags him away to head back to Kunlun.[1]
Several years later, Lin Lang approaches Ming Zhu in Kunlun. She questions why he has returned early after being tasked with finding Baili Ji with the aid of Yuchi Yi. He explains to Lin Lang that he has come back to ask their master for a different task because he would like to spend his time cultivating in the Kunlun. Lin Lang explains to him that their master would not agree to it and that sword-based cultivators like him are meant to hone their skills through battle. Ming Zhu reveals to Lin Lang that their martial brother Yuchi Yi lost his temper during their hunt and went on a rampage to cut down as demonic cultivators, hence if they find Baili Ji, he cannot hold back the temper that Yuchi Yi will unleash. Lin Lang sternly tells Ming Zhu he should not have even return if that is their situation and asks him if he plans to let Yuchi Yi run amok. Ming Zhu expresses his frustrations and questions why evil cultivators like Baili Ji cannot be killed. Lin Lang clarifies to Ming Zhu that killing fellow cultivators in the past was not an issue, however, for the coming Heavenly Calamity, clans and rogue cultivators must be tolerated so that they may all band together to fight. Ming Zhu wonders why the Kunlun sect tolerates the Baili clan to which Lin Lang speculates that the Baili clan must have had an involvement in the last Heavenly Calamity.[2]
