Ross (ロズオータ, Rozuoota?, lit. "Rosewater") is a non-playable character who appears in the original Breath of Fire.
Role in Breath of Fire
Ross is the wealthiest man in Auria, a ship owner, and the holder of the Light Key, which he uses to keep the city in perpetual daylight. He is tempted to give the key to the Dark Dragon Clan to prevent them from harming his daughter, however, the spirit of his deceased wife convinces him to give it to the party instead.
Etymology
The name Rosewater is likely used in reference to Eliot Rosewater, the wealthy protagonist of the novel God Bless You, Mr. Rosewater, by Kurt Vonnegut. Two characters in Breath of Fire II derive their names from another one of the author's characters, Kilgore Trout.
